An effective license position sets what you own against what you run and prices the gap. It is the document you want in hand before you answer an audit letter, plan a renewal or sign a deal, and building one by hand means joining two sets of evidence that seldom sit together: the paper that says what you bought, and the data that says what you run.
This guide covers how Vera AI by VendorBenchmark builds that position in a day, and the licensing apps around it. Same Day ELP is the service: AI drafts, an analyst reviews every line and a second analyst checks it. IBM License Position and SAP Suite are self serve apps for two estates with rules of their own. Each section links to a full article.
One service, two apps, one choice
Three articles take the service from intake to sign off. Two cover the self serve apps. The last helps you choose between the human checked path and the automated one.

Read it →How the 24 hours run
Every request passes the same stages. People do three of them: you at the start, then two analysts once the AI has drafted.
You send
The paper, the deployment data and the scope.
AI drafts
Entitled against deployed, line by line, within the hour.
Analyst review
Every line against your contract terms and the product rules.
QA check
A second analyst traces each figure to a file.
Delivered
Within 24 hours of a complete submission, on your ticket.
The ticket draws the five stages as one line, with the hour each one lands by. Done stages fill in, the current one is lit, and it turns gold while the clock waits on a file from you. Questions go to the analyst through Messages on the same ticket.
Who does what
The split is fixed. The AI reads and drafts, people check and sign off, and every decision about what to do with the result stays with you.
| Stage | Done by | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Request | You | Pick the vendor and product, upload the paper and the deployment data, and say why you need it. A reason stands in for any file you do not have. |
| AI draft | AI | Reads every file and drafts entitled against deployed, line by line, within the hour. |
| Analyst review | An analyst | Checks every line against your contract terms and the product rules, the same day. A missing file is asked for on the ticket, and the clock pauses. |
| QA check | A second analyst | Traces each figure to a file before the position is released. |
| Delivered | You | The position by product, the exposure in US dollars, the levers ranked and the workbook. What happens next is your call. |
The service on one screen. Ten vendors and 41 products, the three stages every request is made in, and the items every ELP needs, required and optional.
In the app the service is called License position in 24 hours, and search still finds it as Same Day ELP.
What goes in, and what comes back
Every position needs three things: the signed agreement and every amendment, every order form still in force, and the deployment data the product's guide lists, such as installations, users, employee counts, cores or the vendor's own measurement exports. Support renewals, virtualization maps and any audit letter help if you have them.
- The position by product. Entitled against deployed for every product and metric, with the gap.
- The exposure in money. The shortfall priced at list in US dollars, with a what if on every short line.
- Remediation, ranked. The levers that close the gap, ordered by what each one is worth.
- The workbook. Summary and position sheets to share with finance, legal and the vendor team, plus the vendor's own analysis on Microsoft, Azure, SAP and Salesforce.
The same app runs two more services on the same clock with the same two checks: hyperscaler optimization for AWS, Azure, Google Cloud and OCI, delivered as an Excel workbook, an executive report and a step by step guide, and negotiation help for the top hundred vendors, with a benchmark, a negotiation strategy and talking points.
Why the position needs people on it
A license position rarely stays with the team that asked for it. Finance, legal and the vendor team each act on what it says. An overstated shortfall becomes the vendor's opening number. An understated one becomes an audit finding later.
That is why AI writes the first draft and never the last. The draft is fast, and two analysts make it safe to share. The clock includes both checks, so you do not trade speed for review: within 24 hours of a complete submission, nights and weekends counted, paused only while an analyst waits on a file from you.
AI writes the first draft. Two people make it safe to share.
The checks also make the position honest about itself. Anything missing from the submission is named, every figure traces to a line in your paper or your data, and the delivered ELP says who drafted, reviewed and QA checked it.
When you want to run it yourself
Two estates have apps of their own, built around their own rules: ILMT for IBM, and USMM and Digital Access for SAP. Both read exports you already have.
- IBM License Position. The Passport Advantage export, the ILMT snapshot, RVTools and the user lists, read in your browser with nothing sent. Entitled against deployed per product, counted as an audit would today and once ILMT is fixed, with the twelve ILMT checks and five Excel workbooks. Hand off carries it to an analyst review in 24 hours.
- SAP Suite. The license position from your USMM exports, Digital Access priced three ways and RISE with SAP against staying where you are, then a strategy and talking points written and checked from those figures.
- Agentless discovery. For a position that keeps itself current, Software Discovery and Software Discovery+ do licensing with no human operator, and a licensing report per publisher can arrive weekly or monthly. Java Scanner's Build the ELP hands its scan to the analysts, delivered within 24 hours.
SAP Suite on the sample estate. The license position as three scenarios, production as measured, the landscape as SAP's LAW consolidates it and after the recommended clean up, with the clean up rules on sliders above them.
What to do first
- Pick the vendor on your desk. The one with an audit letter, a renewal or a deal coming. Every plan can read its upload guide.
- Pull the paper and the data. The agreement and every amendment, the order forms in force and the deployment data the guide lists.
- Send a complete request. Give a reason for anything you do not have, so the clock can start.
- Work from the position. Move the what if, rank the levers, and take the workbook to finance, legal and the vendor team.
Questions buyers ask
